Hopefully you are not completely drained from this weeks encounter with Quants. Ideally you should now be at a level where you can answer 80% of the end of chapter (EOC) questions in the 4 Quants: Basic Concepts readings. As we discussed last week it is only a small minority of the questions that are arranged as standard multiple choice questions, you will therefore just have to try and mark your own answers as fairly as you can.
End of Chapter Questions Tool:
Alternatively in keeping with our commitment to help you utilize your time more efficiently, we have created a tool that will automatically calculate your score for the EOC questions related to each curriculum reading. Let’s do a tutorial to show you how it works for the EOCs related to reading 5.
- Find the EOC questions in reading 5 in your curriculum book or e-reader.
- Go to the Questions menu bar item in the menu above.
- Select the relevant reading (in this case reading 5).
- You can now select your answers as you work your way through the EOC questions. Please note that this application does not show the full wording of the questions or the explanation for the answers (you have already got this information spelled out in the curriculum) e.g. it will merely ask you if the answer to question 27 is A, B or C, and detect if you pick the right answer. Even if the questions in the curriculum are not organized as a multiple choice, this application will give you 3 choices. E.g. if you have to calculate an interest rate and the result is 3.5% the application may e.g. ask you to select between the answers 3.0%, 3.5% and 4.5%.
- Once you have selected all the answers for a particular reading press the “Get Results” button at the bottom of the screen, and you will instantly get your score, and a list of all of your correct and incorrect answers, so that you can quickly see which ones you need to work on.
The week to come:
In the upcoming week we are going to cover the second half of the Quants topic area. This study session is going to focus more on applied quantitative methods.
We are going to employ the same approach we have used the last two weeks, so at this stage it should begin to become familiar and perhaps a bit more natural to you:
- Answer the end of chapter questions before going through each reading. Make a list of the questions that you find particularly puzzling (especially whenever you resort to guessing). When reviewing your answers, add the questions that you got wrong to the list.
- Write down the LOS so that you have it handy, and actively seek out and write down the answers as you progress through the individual readings.
- Answer the EOC questions from your list again once you are through each reading, as many times as you need, until you can confidently answer all questions correctly.
Let’s touch base next weekend, when you have nailed 80% of the EOC questions in the 4 remaining Quants readings.
Good luck with your studies!
